OCD Treatment in Florida

Online psychiatric care for adults, by secure video from anywhere in Florida.

A thought shows up: the door isn’t locked, your hands aren’t clean, something bad will happen unless you do it just right. It won’t leave until you check, wash, count, or ask one more time, and the relief never lasts. You may know the fear doesn’t quite make sense and still feel unable to ignore it.

Common experiences

  • Unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that feel upsetting or out of character
  • Checking locks, appliances, or messages over and over
  • Washing or cleaning more than seems necessary
  • Needing things to feel “just right,” even, or in order
  • Mental rituals like counting, praying, or repeating phrases
  • Asking for reassurance again and again
  • Avoiding places or situations that set off your fears
  • Losing an hour or more a day to thoughts or rituals

OCD is a brain-based pattern, not a quirk or a choice.

With OCD, the brain flags certain thoughts as dangerous and pushes you to neutralize them with rituals. Each ritual brings brief relief, which teaches the brain to demand it again. Genetics and brain chemistry play a role, and stress can make symptoms louder.

Intrusive thoughts say nothing about who you are or what you want. Many people with OCD feel embarrassed and wait years to get help. You don’t have to.

Your first visit: understanding your OCD

Your first appointment is a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation. You can talk openly about any thought, however strange or upsetting it feels.

What the evaluation covers

  • The thoughts and rituals you’re experiencing, how much time they take, and how they affect your life
  • Medical and psychiatric history, including anxiety, depression, and tics
  • Medications you’ve tried before, and how they worked
  • Sleep, energy, and daily functioning at home and at work
  • Your personal context and what you’d like to be able to do again

Your treatment plan may include

  • Medication management when clinically appropriate; medications from the antidepressant family are commonly used for OCD
  • Education about how OCD works and why reassurance and rituals keep it going
  • Referral to exposure and response prevention (ERP), a specialized therapy for OCD
  • Regular follow-ups, since finding the right dose often takes time

Medication is one tool, used with a clear purpose. The goal is more room in your day and more freedom from rituals, not changing who you are.

A prescription is a clinical decision, not a guarantee. Some evaluations lead to a different diagnosis or to treatment without medication. When a controlled medication is considered, additional monitoring applies, and some situations may call for an in-person assessment.

How care works at Mode Psychiatry

Good psychiatric care takes time, teamwork, and honest explanations. Here is what that looks like for you.

Time to tell the whole story

Your first visit is a full 60 minutes, so we understand your history and what matters to you before recommending anything.

Decisions made together

You set the pace. We talk through the options, and nothing changes in your plan without your input.

Clear answers in plain language

You’ll know what your diagnosis means, why a treatment is suggested, and what to watch for. Ask anything, at any visit.

Frequently asked questions

Do disturbing thoughts mean I want to act on them?

No. In OCD, intrusive thoughts feel so upsetting precisely because they go against what you value. It’s safe to talk about them here, and doing so helps us understand what you’re dealing with.

Is OCD the same as being very neat or organized?

No. OCD is driven by distress, not preference. The rituals feel necessary to quiet a fear, and they often take time you’d rather spend elsewhere.

Do you offer ERP therapy?

Our focus is evaluation and medication management, with supportive conversation built into visits. We can help you find an ERP-trained therapist and coordinate with them, since the two approaches often work well together.

What happens at the first appointment?

It’s a 60-minute video visit. We’ll go over your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, past medications, sleep, and daily life, and talk about what you’d like to be different. Medication may come up, but no decision is forced or rushed. You’ll leave with clear next steps and a follow-up date.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We’re in network with Aetna, Cigna, Oscar, and UnitedHealthcare through Headway, and self-pay is available ($250 for the 60-minute evaluation, $125 for 30-minute follow-ups). We’ll verify your coverage before your first visit, so you know what to expect.

Is care available in Russian?

Yes. The entire process, from the first evaluation to follow-up visits, can be done in Russian, in English, or switching between the two.

Less time on rituals, more time for your life.

You don’t need to explain everything perfectly to get started. Booking takes a few minutes, and we’ll take it from there.
